Frequently asked questions

  • Builders Captains serve as the general contractor for the project. Instead of standard contracting, they'll gather and manage subcontractors to provide in-kind services to complete a project.

  • Donations are used to support the creation of housing solutions for vulnerable residents of Hawaii, including people experiencing homelessness and those impacted by natural disasters.

More specifically, we have three main funds donors can support:

    • The Housing Solutions Fund is directed to the area of most need, including project-based expenses and operations for kauhale, Maui, or future initiatives.
    • The Kauhale Fund is directed specifically to any expenses that support Kauhale projects.
    • The Maui Fund is directed to projects designed to create interim housing for wildfire survivors and other deeply affordable housing on Maui.

100% of donations remain in Hawaii to serve the people of Hawaii.

  • We accept a wide range of in-kind donations from professional services (e.g. consulting, architectural work) to receiving goods (e.g. flooring, planters). Please contact us at info@homeaidhawaii.org to discuss any potential in-kind donations.

At this time, we do not have a public donation site available to drop-off goods.
