About the Program

Kauhale Housing offers secure shared housing, light case management, job readiness support, and opportunities to grow through education and community engagement. The program is managed by HomeAid's Kauhale Management Services Division.

Who Can Apply

We welcome individuals who are:

  • Currently homeless or at risk of homelessness.
  • Individuals willing to participate in the program’s job, education, and community support services.
  • Committed to living in a shared, drug- and alcohol-free environment.
  • Ready to work on personal goals for independent living.

  • Individuals experiencing homelessness, financial hardship, or exiting institutions such as rehabilitation centers, correctional facilities, or hospitals.

  • Individuals will acknowledge and sign a program agreement form that will go over options and ways to contribute to the community with Kauhale Management Services (KMS). Individuals will pay a modest program fee. Housing subsidies and other vouchers will not be accepted at this site as Kauhale Housing is program-based; active participation is required.

  • No. Kauhale Housing Program does not require sobriety at the time of application or employment upon entry, but applicants will be screened/interviewed to determine the best fit for the site/program.

  • Yes. Applicants must be adults, typically 18 years or older.

  • The program primarily serves individuals; families or couples will be directed to other services as appropriate.

  • Units include shared or private accommodations; individuals will have their own “sleeping pod” but will share communal spaces (toilet, shower, kitchen, computer lab, public areas, etc.).

  • Services include job readiness, light on-site case management, life skills workshops, and peer mentorship.

  • There is a six-month program agreement with the option to renew on a month-to-month basis. Participants also agree to meet monthly program engagement expectations.

  • Support continues without judgment. Kauhale Housing Program emphasizes encouragement and personal growth. Services will be provided on a case-by-case basis; an exit policy will be shared with all individuals during the policy review process with KMS staff.

  • Yes. Residents are expected to uphold community values of respect, accountability, and upward motivation, as well as all other house rules provided for review before moving in.
