Mr. Saunders is the President of Castle & Cooke Hawai’i, the affiliated Hawai’i subsidiaries of Castle & Cooke, Inc., and has been with Castle & Cooke for some 40 years. Mr. Saunders oversees all of the company’s Hawai’i operations which includes residential, commercial, diversified agri-tourism, land management and renewable energy operations and developments on O’auhu, Lāna’i and the Big Island of Hawai’i. He represents Castle & Cooke Hawai‘i in various capacities with its major customers, building and finance industries, and the government and public sectors.
Mr. Saunders tenure with Castle & Cooke started in 1975 and has ascended to his current position as President since 2001. Mr. Saunders has extensive experience and background in real estate, developing and marketing planned development communities and establishing long-range operating objectives.
Mr. Saunders’ legacy is the continuance of Castle & cooke Hawai‘i as a premier residential developer in the State of Hawai‘i. Castle & Cooke’s flagship development, Mililani is Hawaii’s first master-planned community. Started in 1968 and completed in 2008, Mililani provided over 16,000 homes for Hawai‘i families. Additionally, another 4,000 homes were also developed throughout the State. Building homes and creating new communities for over 45 years for Hawai‘i families has been his passion and purpose.
Providing new homes and new choices for Hawai’i families will continue at Kia Ridge, the next master-planned community of Castle & Cooke. The strategy of providing affordable to median priced homes for Hawaii’s residents will continue at Koa Ridge.
Under his leadership, Castle & Cooke’s commercial real estate assets have grown to over one million square feet of office and retail space on O’ahu, including Home Depot, Best Buy, Costco and Signature Theatres at the Dole Cannery in Iwilei. In addition Castle & Cooke Aviation Fixed Based Operations provides for private jet services and fueling at its Lagoon Drive location.
Mr. Saunders has been instrumental in setting a path of diversification needed to sustain Castle & Cooke into the future. He has spearheaded Castle & Cooke’s expansion of agri-tourism with the development of Dole Plantation; 2015 rated the number one attraction in Hawai‘i with over 1.5 million visitors.
