There are countless stories from the Maui wildfires, each highlighting the different challenges displaced residents face. Yet, it’s rare to truly understand what they’re going through until you hear it firsthand.

For many homeowners who lost everything in the wildfires, the struggle isn’t just about finding a place to live—it’s about the financial burden of paying a mortgage on a home that no longer exists. Their jobs continue, their children still need stability, yet they’re stuck in an impossible situation. They can’t afford rent, can’t rebuild, and can’t buy another home.

"Having Ka La‘i Ola and having this space that we don't have to pay for at least a year has been tremendously helpful for us. We've been trying to save as much as we can so we can rebuild without taking out another loan or having to pay extra."

Nicole, like many others, is using this time at Ka La‘i Ola to save and rebuild. We’re standing with you and doing everything we can to help. Mahalo for sharing your story.
