Puʻuhonua O Waiʻanae

Puʻuhonua o Waiʻanae is a community of roughly 250 houseless individuals who take care of one another and their community through shared governance, outreach, and sustainability. They have been living on DLNR land by the Waianae Boat Harbor for many years, creating a home from donated and found materials, and welcoming all who seek a place of refuge and stability. Recently, the group raised funds and purchased land for a village of permanent housing structures. The structures will be built in part by the future residents, helping them to appreciate the value of their efforts in ending their homelessness.
