We often receive messages like, “How do I apply to Kauhale?” or “I need a home. Please help me.”

If you are reaching out for housing, we want you to know we care. We understand how hard it is to ask for help, and how deeply important it is to have a place to call home.

Each community has its own application process and eligibility criteria. If you are ready to take the next step, please reach out directly to the organization that manages the community you are interested in:


MAUI

Kīpūola Kauhale (Kahului)

Ka La‘i Ola (Lahaina)

Ka La‘i Ola is a temporary housing development that will house up to 1,500 wildfire survivors for up to 5 years. The Hawaiʻi Interim Housing Program (HIHP) assists those displaced by placing survivor households in Ka Laʻi Ola. As of January 16, 2025, HIHP no longer accepts applications. For those who still have disaster-related housing needs, the Disaster Case Management Program (DCMP) at 211 or 808-275-2000 can connect applicants to additional State and partner resources for recovery assistance.
