Pūlama Ola Kauhale

The Pūlama Ola medical respite kauhale was developed in partnership with the State of Hawai‘i in response to the need for nearby hospitals to discharge homeless individuals to a place where they could receive additional care and services. Many homeless individuals rely on the emergency medical system for care, but do not actually require hospitalization. Hospital systems want to ensure their ERs are available for truly emergent needs and therefore can’t keep homeless individuals until they are fully well. The Pūlama Ola Kauhale resolves this challenge by providing a space for homeless individuals to recover in the care of non-profit partner Project Vision Hawai‘i.
