Ke Kauhale ʻo Luhia

Ke Kauhale ʻo Luhia is an intergenerational kauhale community in Waimānalo created as an expansion to the shelter site formerly known as Weinberg Village. The village transformed 21 former parking spaces into a connected community, adding 20 new homes alongside a shared kitchen, community center, restrooms, showers and gathering spaces designed to foster connection, healing and long-term stability. Intentionally designed to bring together single adults, kūpuna and families, the project creates private spaces residents can call their own while encouraging a strong sense of community and belonging.

Behind the Name
Named by Kimeona Kane, Chair of the Waimānalo Neighborhood Board, Ke Kauhale ʻo Luhia draws inspiration from the moʻokāne of the Waimānalo and Kahawai streams that border the property, reflecting the deep relationship between people, water, and place. The name honors connection, gathering, and mutual care, while recognizing the responsibility to care for both community and the natural systems that sustain it across generations.

Ke Kauhale ʻo Luhia's Blessing was held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
