Credit Unions of Maui and Lānaʻi, with support from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines, are helping to shape long-term recovery on Maui by supporting safe and stable housing for wildfire survivors. Their generous contribution helped HomeAid Hawai‘i launch a new division focused on sustaining and stewarding Ka La‘i Ola.

Contribution

$300,000 was contributed through the Credit Union Wildfire Relief Fund, established by the Credit Unions of Maui and Lānaʻi. A grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines made this donation possible

Impact

This funding supported the development of Ka La‘i Ola’s modular housing community and enabled the launch of Kauhale Management Services, HomeAid Hawai‘i’s new division dedicated to long term property management. More than a traditional property management service, Kauhale Management takes a human centered approach rooted in dignity, healing, and community.

The goal is to provide residents not only with housing, but with the grace and support to regain stability at their own pace, including a gradual transition toward contributing rent at a pace that aligns with their recovery. This thoughtful model fosters a path to sustainability and self sufficiency over time.

Thanks to this partnership, Ka La‘i Ola, Maui’s largest interim housing development, provides safe, stable, and welcoming housing for wildfire survivors. The project also offers on-site management and community-based services to ensure consistent care and meaningful support for residents over time.
