When we took on the Ka Laʻi Ola project, one of our first tasks was sorting through hundreds of modular home manufacturers offering solutions for those displaced by the fires. It wasn’t just about choosing a vendor—it was about ensuring the homes would provide stability, comfort, and quality for those in need, all at an affordable price. Every decision had to align with our mission of creating not just housing, but spaces where people could rebuild their lives.
This commitment to finding the right solutions has led us to expand our portfolio with Staus modular units, which I traveled to South Korea to see firsthand. These versatile units include one- and two-bedroom homes as well as standalone communal facilities like kitchens, bathrooms, and multipurpose buildings such as laundry rooms or community spaces. By incorporating Staus units into our developments, we can better tailor communities to meet both immediate and long-term needs, providing flexibility alongside our original tiny home model for Kauhale Villages.
The first deployment of these modular units will be part of Alana Ola Pono Kauhale, our newest Kauhale in Iwilei, opening at the end of this year. This project will feature essential communal facilities like bathrooms and showers.
Below, you’ll find a slideshow offering a sneak peek at our Staus modular units and the value they bring to our housing solutions.
