Ka La‘i Ola is a temporary housing development designed to support up to 1,500 wildfire survivors for up to five years. This project will feature 450 modular homes, including studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom units equipped with full kitchens, bathrooms, and living areas, enabling independent living. Alongside housing, Ka La‘i Ola will offer property management and community services aimed at helping residents heal and rebuild their lives.

ka - the | laʻi - peace, serenity, solace | ola - life, recovered, healed
Kumu Hula Pueo Pata derived inspiration of the name Ka Laʻi Ola from ʻōlelo noʻeau (Hawaiian proverbs) and from a Letter to the Editor of the Ke Au Okoa newspaper in 1871. The term laʻi as described by the Pukui & Elbert Hawaiian Dictionary offers many definitions of the word, including, “calm, stillness, quiet, peace, contentment, tranquility,” among a myriad of other words that evoke feelings of solace and care.
